Spotlight on reform
Suddenly, unexpectedly, the drive to reform the governing structure of the Canadian Soccer Association is taking huge, unprecedented steps forward.

The CSA’s “Constitution Committee” has recommended enormous changes – including the outright elimination of provincial and territorial soccer association reps on the CSA board.

This is huge, because Canada has been eternally saddled with an ineffective board, filled to overflowing with members looking out for their local agendas first, and our national soccer teams second.

An update on governance reform to Canadian soccer
At the Canadian Soccer Association’s annual general meeting last weekend, delegates voted in favour of a new governance framework that will revolutionize the organization.

The decision could prove to be the most important one ever made by the CSA, and the response from the soccer community across the country has been very positive.

However, as with any change this important, there are many questions that still need to be answered.

The Canadian Soccer Association reveals new name for program
The Canadian Soccer Association’s grassroots soccer program has a new name – Nutrilite Active Start Soccer Fests presented by BMO!

Canada’s largest grassroots soccer program has undergone a makeover this winter to be in line with its new long term player development model – Wellness to World Cup presented by BMO. Nutrilite Active Start Soccer Fests presented by BMO is the new name for the previous Mini Soccer program.

The term Active Start has been adopted from the first of seven stages within Wellness to World Cup. This player development pathway promotes maximum player retention for both optimum wellness and sporting excellence. For more information please visit the Wellness to World Cup website.

The new brand for the entry point of soccer in Canada will be accompanied by several exciting features on the newly created website at Nitrilite Active Start Soccerfests. A key feature of this new portal is the online application process for clubs to follow For further information on the new program and to complete your festival application visit the website today! Additional fun and exciting giveaways have been added to the program this year by the Canadian Soccer Association’s corporate sponsors that support the festivals. Governance of Canadian soccer about to change
Change is coming.

The Canadian Soccer Association held its annual general meeting this weekend in Winnipeg, and top of the agenda was a proposal to change the governance structure of the CSA.

So what exactly is governance?

Governance is defined as the processes and structures whereby an organization (in this case the CSA) makes decisions about its future in an effective, accountable and transparent manner.

An effective governance structure clarifies organizational roles, ensures that the Board is diversified and enables the Board to govern in the greater interests of the organization while remaining accountable to the membership.
