Russell Raiders At The U14 Canadian Futsal Championships

The U14 Canadian Futsal Championships kicked off this morning at Capilano College in North Vancouver. The first game involved the girl’s teams from Edmonton SWU and North Shore Reign.

SWU took an early 3-0 lead on goals from Kirsten Puznak, Emily Adamic and Emily Stenerson. North Shore Reign made the game interesting as they came back to score two quick goals from Alexis Aulin-Haynes and Gillian Brownlow. SWU took control of the game in second half, scoring two unanswered goals from Rozlyn Boutin and Victoria Saccomani to take the game 5-2.

1st Annual U14 Futsal National Championship

North Vancouver’s Capilano College hosts the first National Futsal Championships, April 14 to April 15. This tournament features the top U14 Boys and Girls Futsal teams from BC, Alberta and Ontario. Round Robin games open Saturday and continue Sunday. Medal games kick off at noon April 15.

The Small Town That Could

When a team from Ottawa arrives in Russell for the first time to play the Raiders, they are in awe.

In this small town, 30 minutes southeast of Ottawa, population 3500, soccer has reached somewhat of a cult status. In this town with no traffic lights, every soccer night results in a traffic jam. Parking near the soccer fields is impossible if you arrive late.
