The Canadian junior women’s team has got off to a rousing start at the CONCACAF U-20 championships.

After a nervous start, the Canadians got five second-half goal en route to a 5-0 win over Haiti Thursday in Panama City.

The Montreal Impact has added another Canadian to the fold.

The Impact announced three signings on Thursday. And while the signings of second-round draft pick Calum Mallace and Mexican Gienir Garcia are relevant, the story Canadian fans are going to pick up on is that the Impact have inked Canadian midfielder Evan James to a deal.

Nguyen waived: Whitecaps waste their lottery pick
The Vancouver Whitecaps took a gamble, and were burned.

On Thursday, as a footnote to a press release announcing that English midfielder Matt Watson now has a U.S. green card, the Whitecaps announced that the club had waived midfielder Lee Nguyen, the American who spent the last three years playing in Vietnam.

As Thursday is MLS roster compliance day, Nguyen is eligible to be picked up through a waiver draft to be held Friday.

Italians cry foul over Robyn Gayle’s match-winning goal for Canada
Robyn Gayle’s last-gasp goal gave Canada a 2-1 win over Italy Thursday in Cyprus Cup action.

The Canadian national women’s team now has six points from two matches, and looks good to top its round-robin group. With just one-group-stage match left to go, against the Netherlands, Big Red has a 100 per cent record and a goal difference of plus-six.

Gayle was able to scramble home the winner in injury time after Chelsea Buckland won a battle for the ball in the penalty area.

Ferrari is now parked in the Montreal Impact’s garage
Montreal Impact coach Jesse Marsch now has the keys to his new Ferrari.

The Impact announced Thursday what pretty well everyone who follows the club was expecting to hear, that it has come to an agreement with Italian defender Matteo Ferrari, who has been in camp with the club since the middle of February.

Ferrari has 11 caps for Italy. He played the last two seasons with Besiktas.
