Sherbrooke finally scores some goals, but can’t escape last-place finish at FIFRA championships
The University of Sherbrooke Vert & Or finally found some offence, but it wasn’t enough to keep the team from finishing fourth out of the four-team field at FIFRA world indoor soccer club championship.

After being outscored by a cumulative score of 24-1 over its three round-robin losses, Sherbrooke faced Ecuador’s La Bombonerita in the third-place game. The Ecuadoreans took the match by a 7-6 score.

Pinto deal with FC Edmonton on hold: Striker heads back to Chile
The deal to bring Chilean U20 international Yashir Pinto to FC Edmonton is on hold.
After not appearing at practices over the last four days, Pinto has gone home to Chile. FC Edmonton released a statement Saturday confirming that Pinto failed his Edmonton medical and will be assessed further in Chile.

Because of patient privacy, FCE could not reveal what is or could be wrong with Pinto.

How the CSA can fix its WCQ public-relations mess
In the wake of Thursday’s announcement that Toronto will host Canada’s next three World Cup home qualifiers — and will also get the June friendly with the United States — message boards and Twitter have been filled with our country’s soccer fans at each other’s virtual throats.

Where there should be a push to support the national team, there is bitterness.

The Canadian Soccer Association has a public-relations nightmare on its hands. And that’s what this column will address. The CSA badly underestimated the regional divides in Canada, and the announcement picked at those scabs rather than acting as something that would unite fans from coast-to-coast.

Sherbrooke scores none, gives up 19 in first two FIFRA matches
It had the making of a nice feel-good movie: Amateur team from Quebec decides to take on the world.

But this is no Disney movie. More like a Wes Craven film.

In two matches at the FIFRA world club championships, the University of Sherbrooke Vert & Or have yet to score, and have surrendered, cough, 19 goals.

On Friday, the PASL champion San Diego Sockers routed Sherbrooke 15-0. The Sockers have not lost a PASL game since the Christmas season of 2010 and should win the league title again this year. The goals were flying in so fast early in the game, on the poor quality stream from Mexico it was impossible to tell who was doing the damage. Even the San Diego Sockers’ own Facebook page and Twitter feed couldn’t keep up with the goals, promising fans that they’d be update on the stats later in the game.
