MILTON, ON – Scott Cliff, a goalkeeper, has become the first player to sign with Milltown FC. The Hanmer, ON native signed a two year professional contract with the first year CSL club.
Cliff comes to Milltown FC after a successful 2009 season with FC London of the PDL, where he backstopped that club to a third place finish in the Great Lakes Division in just their first season in the league. He has also just completed a very successful University career at Laurentian University, having won the 2008 OUA East Division MVP award, getting named to the 2009 CIS 2nd Team All-Canadian roster and being honoured as a two-time OUA East First Team All Star. He was also named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2008. Prior to transferring to Laurentian, Cliff had been attending Oakland City University (Oakland City, Indiana) on scholarship.
Milltown FC coaches identified Cliff at open tryouts that took place last month and invited him to join training camp. From the outset, it became clear that Cliff has the ability to be an important player for the club in its debut season.
“I am a big believer that if you want to build a good team, you must always start with a good goalkeeper, which in my opinion, is 50% of your team”, said Milltown FC’s Director of Soccer Operations and Head Coach, Rafael Carbajal.
“Scott is a very good goalkeeper and has impressed me with his game management abilities. I also like his personality. He is very willing to work with our younger players. He has a lot of passion and commitment for the game and is planning to move to Milton to become involved in the community.”
With the regular season fast approaching, Milltown FC is working hard to finalize its roster ahead of its first ever CSL game, to be played May 15 in Montreal versus the Montreal Impact Academy. More signings will be announced shortly.
A Meet The Team event will also be announced soon so that media and fans can be introduced to Scott Cliff and the rest of the 2010 Milltown FC roster and to also unveil the club’s uniform.
