Toronto FC tied 0-0 with hosts Charleston Battery in their opening game of the 2010 Carolina Challenge Cup. The Reds finished the match with ten men after Gabe Gala was sent off for a second bookable offence nine minutes from time.
Toronto coach Preki named a starting line-up that included only players currently signed by the team, but he introduced two trialists in the second half. Egyptian Ibrahim Said and Italian defender Alessandro Zamperini both played 45 minutes after the break. Zamperini most recently played for Latvian champions FK Ventspils and has previously been with Lazio and Portsmouth.
