martonalexandra75 Hat trick artist Christine Sinclair may have been the star for the first 80 minutes, but by playing the last 10 minutes of a 3:0 win over Japan on 7 March, teenager Alexandra Marton made her first appearance with the Canadian women’s senior team. Marton, who grew up in Aurora, ON, replaced midfielder Sophie Schmidt in the 81st minute of Canada’s second match at the Cyprus Cup this week.

Marton has been a part of the Canadian residency program in Vancouver, BC this winter. She has been on the roster for the January trip to China for the Four Nations Tournament and the March trip to Europe for the Cyprus Cup (three matches) and two friendly matches.

Marton is still young enough to play for Canada’s U-20 team, who will try to advance to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Chile 2008. In 2007, she helped the Canadian development team finish first at the 2007 International Soccer Festival in Alabama. In 2006, she won a gold medal with Ontario at the 2006 National Championships U-16 Girls All-Star Selects in Saskatoon, SK (Reece Cup).

Marton grew up participating in basketball, volleyball, ball hockey, flag football, tennis, frisbee golf. She enjoys listening to music, playing with her younger brother (11 years younger), and scrapbooking. Her favourites have included John Terry, Thierry Henry, Chelsea and Mats Sundin.
