THE GOVERNMENT OF QUÉBEC WILL SUPPORT THE MONTREAL IMPACT FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS
MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced, Wednesday, a new five-year partnership with the Government of Québec, as one of the club’s founding partners.
Under the new agreement, the Government of Québec will invest $300,000 annually with the team over the next five years (2007-2011), for a total investment of $1.5 million.
“The Impact’s success and popularity throughout the province are directly linked to the fact that we have received unwavering support from the Government of Québec over the past five years,” said Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo.
“We are proud to see that the government is pursuing its commitment towards the team and towards soccer as a whole. It’s an extraordinary vote of confidence and we intend to be up to the task.”
As one of the club’s founding partners, the Government of Québec had already invested $1.3 million over the past five years. The Government of Québec, Saputo and Hydro-Québec are the Montreal Impact’s founding partners, when the team was re-launched in 2002 as a non-profit organization.
The Impact will kick off the 2007 First Division United Soccer Leagues season on Sunday, April 21 in Atlanta against the Silverbacks. The Impact will play its 14th home opener of its history at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex on Sunday, May 20, against the Seattle Sounders.
